July 8 (revisited) | ||
|
As I posted yesterday...
Free agents may negotiate and consider offers from July 1-7, but can't sign on the dotted line until the league and players association set the salary cap and luxury tax on July 8.So, even though Ben Gordon and Charlie Villaneuva have agreed to sign with the Pistons and Ron Arters says he is committed to going to the Lakers, nothing is in writing and nothing is binding till July 8, when NBA free agent contracts can be signed. For example, though the Ben Gordon to the Pistons is a "done deal", as is being reported now... CBSSports.com has learned that the Bulls and Pistons may yet revisit Detroit's agreement with Ben Gordon and instead investigate a sign-and-trade that would send Allen Iverson to Chicago.Regardless what transpires in the next four days, it will be much more interesting to see what transactions actually are signed on July 8, and thereafter. |

Gordon revisited: Sign-and-trade for Iverson?
Gordon revisited: Sign-and-trade for Iverson?I only post this because it shows how teams are trying to find ways to make deals though they are concerned about the dire economy and are restricted by the NBA luxury penalty.

Turkoglu Update | ||
Turkoglu UpdateI still content that Turkoglu would be a good fit with the Kings, especially with Evans' limited point skills. But as usual, if Geoff is plotting something, all is quiet on the Kings' transaction front. At 6'10", he is a "big guy" with point, wing and front court skills. He makes any inside/outside game better, has become a bigtime clutch player, is ready to lead, and knows Coachie's Princeton offense already. Will Geoff do it? Probably not. Portland seems to be doing a better job of drafting, trading and getting key free agent players the last few years. But then... who knows?

LA fans are celebrating next years championship as we speak (or type) but it shouldn't surprise anyone that Artest will gets offers above the 6 mill the Lakers are offering. He's worth more than that. Could Artest change his mind? The best scenario would be if he decided to go to Boston instead.

Yeah, well, they were celebrating early when they had Malone and Payton, too... (snicker)

Funny thing is my brother in law, and one of my best friends are avid Laker fans, and both would have preferred that the Lakers have kept Ariza instead of
signing Artest.

It is pretty ironic that Ariza ended up in Houston, and Artest ended up in LA.

Turkoglu, Blazers agree
Updated: July 3, 2009, 3:15 PM ETWell, he is one more free agent Kings' fans can mark off their lists. When is that "trade" happening again, Geoff? You know, the "big guy" acquisition?

Tyson Chandler | ||
|
Does anyone here know the why the Hornets are trying to unload Tyson Chandler and failing?
I understand that they are around $20 million over the cap and want to unload as much of that as possible. I understand that Chris Paul's new contract kicked in and he is making almost $14 million and Peja Stojakovic is being overpaid for the next two seasons, over $14 million this coming season alone, and that they cannot unload Peja's contract because of Peja's back problems. I understand that Tyson's contract this year is almost $12 million, and he is scheduled to receive almost $13 million the following season but has the option to become a free agent after this coming season instead; so, since Chris is a keeper, the face of the franchise, and Peja is now the albatross, they are looking for ways to get out of the luxury tax and make cap room for 2010. What I do not understand is: is there something wrong with Tyson? Or is it just that other teams do not value a possible one year stint and out with Tyson? I ask because Geoff says the Kings need one more "big guy" and due to the Hornets having a difficult time unloading Tyson's contract and unloading at least one of three of their veteran guards, Morris Peterson, Antonio Daniels or Devin Brown. They are reportedly interested in bringing in Mikki Moore and bringing back Jannero Pargo from Europe. If they trade Tyson, they will need another center. So, I sort of understand bringing in Mikki. They drafted a point guard, in Darren Collison, then traded two future picks for a shooting guard, in Marcus Thornton. So, I understand looking to unload a guard or two. What I do not quite understand is why Tyson is so hard to trade off. Maybe the dire economy coupled with the luxury tax is making teams resist taking on large contracts. Or maybe Tyson has an injury I do not know about. Anyone?

McDyess In No Hurry To Pick A Team
Here is a "big guy" Geoff will not get. He would be perfect for the Spurs (if they do not get Rasheed Wallace); but would fit in nicely anywhere, even here. Of the teams listed, I would prefer he go to the Rockets or the Spurs. (I want anyone to come out of the West who is not the (bleeping Phil/Kobe) Lakers.)
