Leading Off Carril returns to sideline as Kings' summer coach:
http://www.sacbee.com/sports/story/1994640.html I suddenly want to buy a ticket to Las Vegas. The Kings announced their roster and schedule Wednesday for the NBA Summer League later this month in Sin City. They also included an interesting tidbit: Pete Carril will coach the Kings' entry. No offense to new head coach Paul Westphal, but I would pay to see Coachie, as Carril is known, run the Kings. You see, it was Carril who solidified my love of the NCAA Tournament when he was coaching Princeton. The Tigers' near-upset of Georgetown in 1989 was unforgettable. Their 1996 victory over UCLA ranks as one of the greatest upsets in college basketball history. I still can see him storming the sideline, looking incredulous at calls and almost pulling his hair out in agony. He has since made his mark as an off-and-on assistant and consultant with the Kings. Carril may not have the sideline moves he once did. But I'm sure he will show some emotion if a call happens to go the wrong way. |

Kings announce summer league roster, schedule:
http://www.sacbee.com/sports/story/1993841.html Three veteran players will be on the roster when the Kings open NBA Summer League play, the team announced Wednesday. Veterans Donte Greene, Spencer Hawes and Jason Thompson are set to participate in the league, which runs July 10-19. They will be joined by 12 rookies or free agents, including first-round draft picks Tyreke Evans and Omri Casspi. The Kings are among 22 teams participating in the developmental league, which will be played at two sites in Las Vegas. The Kings are scheduled to play five games from July 10-17. The games will not be televised on over-the-air and cable networks, but their will be shown live on the Kings' Web site, www.kings.com. |

Pete Carril to coach Summer League
Team
http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sports/kings/archives/2009/07/pete-carril-to.html Though he was laughing last week when he said he wanted Pete Carril to coach the Kings team in the Las Vegas Summer League, new head coach Paul Westphal was serious. "Coachie," who returns as a
special assistant/consultant, will celebrate his 79th birthday on July 10 - but only after coaching the Kings in their opening game against the Detroit Pistons.

Fabricio Oberto | ||||||
Well, Fabricio Oberto is a "big guy."
The Kings could do worse; but it may be the Rockets who have more of a need and may sign Oberto, a friend of fellow Argentine Luis Scola, as a back at the C position, behind Marcin Gortat, who the Rocket are making a big push for. As the blurb says, Fabricio is smart, is in the right place at the right time during a game, passes the ball, is a solid post defender, and does not need the ball. If nothing else, he is at least worth considering. |

Ariza To Receive Big Payday From Blazers Or Raptors
It would seem that Turkoglu is the prize and Ariza the consolation prize. Lewis' insane contract is making Turkoglu or Gortat available and caused the Magic to trade off Alston and Lee; that's four integral players to their recent Finals push - gone.Resigning Bryant will prohibit the Lakers from re-signing either Odom or Ariza or both; which does not bode well for a Lakers repeat. |

Knicks considering both Jason Kidd and Grant Hill
|
In the Big Apple...
The Knicks are reportedly preparing an offer to rival the Mavericks reported three-year deal being prepared to present to Jason Kidd. The Knicks are also reportedly very interested in making an offer to Grant Hill, who they are very high on. Meanwhile... The Kings are preparing their Summer League roster with Coach Carrill at the helm. The Kings are seeking a "big guy" and and are otherwise mum whatever it is they are doing or not doing - except local media rumors that they are more likely to "trade" for a player rather than sign a free agent.

Free agents may negotiate and consider offers from July 1-7, but can't sign on the dotted line until the league and players association set the salary cap and luxury tax on July 8. |

I have a feeling the Spurs are going to pick up Oberto again, but I would love to have him on the Kings, if I was wrong.
