Burrage returns
Longtime Kings assistant coach/advance scout Bubba Burrage, who was fired along with the team's other three assistants when Kenny Natt was relieved of his head coaching duties at the end of the season, has been rehired by incoming coach Paul Westphal. Burrage, who had been with the organization for 15 years, will be utilized strictly as an advance scout, according to team basketball president Geoff Petrie. He joins a staff that includes Jim Eyen, Mario Elie and Truck Robinson, and again will feature Pete Carril in the role of special assistant/consultant. |

Yao's injury may hasten
Houston's downfall
... diagnosed Yao as suffering from a condition known as gigantism. Because of the "overgrowth" of his bones and the subsequent insufficiency of an adequate blood supply, Yao was therefore extremely vulnerable to various fractures. Indeed, his career has been devastated by exactly these infirmities. |

Tomorrow, GMs will start contacting Free Agents' agents | ||
|
Midnight. Bang! They're off...
10 hours from now on the East coast and 13 hours from now on the West, phones will start ringing, emails sent, and initial offers made by NBA teams' GMs to free agent players' agents. But this time there is less money and greater needs and players hoping for a bigger payday. With Yao Ming suffering a possibly career ending foot injury, the Rockets are in dire need of a center and a fan draw (which is why they were the first team to make a real offer to the Timberwolves for Ricky Rubio). It does not look too good for Rick Adelman's team. The only tradable asset they have left is Tracy McGrady's expiring contract. They are in serious trouble. The Kings, for all their worst-record-in-the-NBA woes, have it much, much easier. And being under the cap sufficiently, they can acquire more talent if they choose to. They are going to improve this coming season. But by how much? The Lakers are going to be hard-pressed to repeat, and won't. The Magic are losing key players. The Spurs, for one, with Richard Jefferson and DeJuan Blair joining the team, Tim Duncan aging gracefully, Tony Parker in top form, Manu Ginobili reportedly healing well, and R.C. Buford capable of reeling in even more talent, looks to have a legitimate shot. There are lots of teams, like the Hornets, who need to unload unwieldy contracts. There are only a handful, like the Kings, with cap room. Somebody is going to be disappointed.

...sit this one out. Please, Petrie.
This made me laugh: * Stephon Marbury, an unrestricted free agent, told the Boston Globe via email that he is not hiring an agent and will stick with NBA Players Association lawyer Hal Biagas as his pro bono representative on a new contract. (If he gets one.) Thus, Marbury won't have to pay someone a percentage of his salary for negotiating the deal. "The best thing about the NBAPA," Marbury said, "is that they work for you for free." That situation will probably end badly...can you technically fire somebody that you don't pay? |

Marbury is a character.

Marbury is much worse than a character. Asshole come to mind. When was the last time he played any real basketball for his 20 mil a year. He has company too in
the 8 plus million Kenny Thomas will get after scoring 6 points last season. Marbury will be lucky to get the veterans minumum.

So, let me guess...
Stephon "meglomaniac" Marbury is NOT at the top of your wish list for Kings acquisitions.
Yeah, he is an insufferable ass. No question. |

I would like to see Alade Aminu in a Kings uniform during the SUmmer League.
Another I wouldn't mind is big man John Bryant? Out of Santa Clara I think? He was one of the first guys in a big workout. |
