Turkoglu pursued by Toronto, Portland and Sacramento? | |||||
Turkoglu earlier this week notified the league that he was opting out of his contract to become a free agent. |

Would the team spend a lot this year and not next? The big money would be available next summer but still they would have to entice a big name to come to town.
The position which might be considered not locked up is SF and Hedo would be a fine player in the rotation. As well as playing point he could also play some
PF. But there is the issue of Evans and Hedo having the ball in their hands. The Maloofs might also look at the financial end of it and see their big signing
coming in somewhat cheap and might not go for the bigger star next summer. Just another complimentary piece.

The current team was called "soft as tissue paper" by Napear yesterday. With the addition of Evans, Casspi and what's his name the team has
supposedly transformed to a meaner side. Stepped into the shadows. Westphal said as much in the interview on the radio. I don't think Garcia, Thompson,
Nocioni or even Hawes are soft. They just might need different coaching.

With the draft behind them, the Kings ought to try to swap Kevin Martin for Kurt Hinrich. A starting backcourt of Hinrich and Evans would make sense and may
even prove formidable.

Nocioni is not soft.
Garcia is not soft. Hawes and Thompson have not been coached well since college. And if tough is what the Kings want, Paul Harris is still out there.

No offense I, (I am not that happy with the Kings draft either, especially at 1.4, however I have seen alot of draft reviews that rate the Kings draft as one
of the top drafts, especially the first two picks) but it seems like you are purposely picking reviews that only say bad things about the Kings picks. Why not
be even some what objective?
Also I liked Blair as well, but all is not all roses for him, he has knee injury concerns. That with his previous weight problems, could have left us with Blair and Hawes up front, and both have serious knee concerns. I am not exactly sure if he would have been available if that would have been a smart move. I was hoping he would be there for us, but I think the trade with Portland was win/win for us, so I have no problem with it. We got a viable pg for next to nothing. |

I saw one report that gave out 6 A's and the Kings were one of those teams.
The team added 2 rotation players in Rodriguez and Evans. Maybe a 3rd in Casspi. And if the possible addition of Turkoglu happens big changes are in store with the first likely being Beno being shopped if he isn't already. |

Yes, Turkoglu could help greatly.

Those were the first three draft review/grades I saw this morning.
There are positive reviews/grades for the Kings. Post them. As I said before, I like the Casspi pick and acquiring Rodriguez. |

This is my first post but I have been following the "Mob" for several years. It seems every year the same thing happens. Everyone states their
opinions and then says in "Petrie We Trust"---then the draft happens and everybody complains. If one looks back at Petrie's picks they have all
been good except maybe Douby and many of the years it hasn't been a high pick. When watching youtube selections for the players they always show lots of
dunks and the player making threes. I choose to support the team, the players and staff for the time being. I believe Tyreke Evans will be good and can learn
to share the ball if coached well. I believe the key to his success is good coaching and an organization that becomes more stable this year.

Welcome BC...please continue to post.
That is the thing with Tyreke - will he learn to share? He seems coachable so I'm more concerned about his hard wiring - he is a programmed attack dog with the ball stuck to his paws. |

I have liked Geoff's picks more than I have not (and have usually stood up for him, even many of his then controversial picks, like Peja and Hedo - who I
still like); but not all of them.
Recent examples (aside from the 2006 draft, you mentioned, where Geoff passed over Rajon Rondo to select Quincy Douby) worth noting: 1) In 1999, Geoff traded Tariq Abdul-Wahad and what became the 2003 #27 pick for Nick Anderson (a bust for the Kings) - which, in 2003, became Kendrick Perkins (for Memphis who traded Kendrick to Boston). 2) Just after the Game 6* NBA WCF rip-off, in 2002, the Kings had the 28th pick and Geoff squandered it on Dan Dickau and traded him to the Hawks immediately for basically nada; when the following players were left on the board in the second round: Roger Mason, Jr., Carlos Boozer, Juan Carlos Navarro, (Sacramento native) Matt Barnes, and Luis Scola (who I wanted Geoff to draft). [Note: Geoff did acquire Darius Songalia with the #50 pick, received from Boston.] 3) In 2005, Geoff selected Francisco Garcia with the 23rd pick (which is not bad), but he could have picked David Lee or Monta Ellis. So, forgive me, if I do not buy into every pick Geoff makes.

Thank you for a nice welcome. I have enjoyed reading everybodys comments over the years and decided to join in. I do believe that going thru so many coaches
over the last four years can be very detrimental to the young players and so hopefully Westphal will be the one to help them go forward in a positive way. I am
looking forward to hearing about the summer league and what happens there.
Figuring out who will actually be good in the NBA is not an exact science. I originally was hoping that they would pick Rubio but I have heard that his group of people were getting in the way of teams having Ricky take part without interference. Maybe we will get him in a couple of years after he learns the NBA or grows up a bit. i ----I am a little confused about 2003 and your list. Didn't Tariq get traded about a year or so after Vlade and Chris got here. That would have made it about 2000. I think the guys on your list were in the 2003 draft though. Songalia was drafted by Boston in 2002 and the Kings got him for a second round pick in a trade with Boston. No I am not that knowledgeable but I remember Tariq only being there for a short time when the Kings started doing better-- got on the Internet and you know how that goes---one thing leads to another and I went down memory lane |

It is nice to dialogue with you BCkings.
As it happens, the Kings had traded (1997 #11 pick) Tariq Abdfuul-Wahad and a future first round pick - that later became the 2003 #27 pick (via Orlando) for Memphis - for Nick Anderson - and Grizzlies picked Kendrick Perkins and traded him to Boston. And yes, I think the Kings somehow got a second round pick via Boston prior as well that became the #50 in 2002 and Darius Songalia. Thank you for jogging my memory. It allowed me fact check and to correct my prior post; which pleases me. Oliver St. Jean who almost immediately changed his name to Tariq Abdul-Wahad once drafted by the Kings 1997, when they were coached by Garry St. Jean (no relation), and played for the Kings for two seasons; and he was traded to the Magic in 1999 for Nick Anderson and a future first round pick, which became the 2003 #27 pick (squandered on Dick Dickau who the Kings immediately traded for a future pick - instead of selecting Carlos Boozer, Juan Carlos Navarro or Luis Scola). Speaking of the 1997 draft, it was the year I was hoping the Kings would win the lottery and draft Tim Duncan; but they got the #11 pick and Oliver St. Jean aka Tariq Abdul-Wahad (whose best season as a pro was 1998-1999 for the Kings) and the #40 pick and Anthony Johnson (a pretty good pick at #40, but) - with Stephen Jackson still on the board. Geoff Petrie won NBA Executive of the Year TWICE, for 1998-99 and for 2000-01. IMHO, He deserved it. And yes, I loved the 1999 to 2003 Sacramento Kings (except the Game 6* rip-off and Chris' playoff ending injury) too! They DESERVED to be champions. And that team kept me from giving up on the NBA altogether. Fun! My point was that, though I have agreed with most of Geoff's picks and moves), I have not agreed with all of them. This season is just one of them. IMHO, he could have done better. But he will have to make what he did work with his future off-season moves.
